Information we collect

We collect only the information necessary to operate and improve the ankrly platform. This includes account details (name, email address, school or organization name, and role), volunteer activity data (hours logged, service records, and verifications), and usage analytics (pages visited, feature interactions, and performance data). For students participating through a school or district, we collect the minimum information needed to facilitate verified service-hour tracking — typically name, grade level, and school affiliation. We do not require students to provide sensitive personal information such as social security numbers, financial details, or home addresses.

How we use your information

Your information is used to deliver and improve our services: managing accounts, facilitating verified volunteer hour tracking, generating reports for schools and organizations, providing customer support, and communicating platform updates. We also use aggregated, de-identified data to understand usage patterns and improve the product. We will never use student data for targeted advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond what is necessary to provide the service.

Student privacy & COPPA compliance

We take student privacy extremely seriously. ankrly is designed with the principles of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) in mind. When schools and districts use ankrly, we act as a school-authorized operator and process student data solely at the direction of the educational institution. We do not condition a student's participation on the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary. Parents and guardians have the right to review, delete, or refuse further collection of their child's data. We do not use student data for behavioral advertising, create profiles of students for non-educational purposes, or share student data except as authorized by the school or required by law.

Data sharing & disclosure

We will never sell or give away your personal information — period. This is a core promise of ankrly. We do not share personal data with third parties except in the following circumstances: (1) with your consent, (2) with service providers who help us operate the platform (e.g., cloud hosting, email delivery) and are bound by strict data processing agreements, (3) to comply with legal obligations or valid legal process, or (4) to protect the rights, property, or safety of ankrly, our users, or others. Any third-party service provider we engage is contractually prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing the specific service we've engaged them for.

Data security measures

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256), role-based access controls, regular security audits, and employee training on data protection best practices. While no system is perfectly secure, we are committed to maintaining robust safeguards. More detail can be found on our Security page.

Data retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide you with our services. When an account is closed, we will delete or anonymize your data within 90 days unless retention is required for legal, audit, or compliance obligations. For student data, we follow the data retention policies established by your school or district and delete student records promptly upon request from the educational institution.

Your rights & choices

You have the right to access, update, correct, or delete your personal information at any time through your account settings. If you need assistance, contact us at the email below. You may also request a copy of the data we hold about you. We will respond to all legitimate requests within 30 days. Parents and legal guardians may exercise these rights on behalf of their minor children by contacting us directly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and through a notice on our platform. Your continued use of ankrly after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
